The Aftermath....

I'm not an emotional person usually...unless i'm mad then I cry. This made me sob like a baby. I've never seen this sort of thing in person. I watched after Katrina and never really thought much of it but now I think this may have changed my life. I was talking to my sister as the flood happened and she was freaking out. At first I thought she was in her car because she kept saying water is going into my windows Carol(her car), water, windows, April, what do I do? Talk about panic mode and almost having a heart attack. Come to find out she was about to leave for work and 3 dams busted and basically a tidal wave wiped out her neighborhood. Luckily she is half way up a hill so her damage wasn't AS bad as it could have been. Her garage is down a hill though so it is toast. Luckily her and her 2 dogs made it out. Justus my BIL was at work at the time so they have 1 vehicle left. They do have flood insurance. 25 houses in the area are condemned and will have to be torn down. Franklin will never look the same.

To make matters worse, her neighbor one house up the hill who's only damage was her basement flooded, dog died :( It happened yesterday and I had to hear the lady crying and the dog resembles Boomer. Dana was 14 though so it might have been of old age and the stress from the flood.

She has great friends and of course a good family so we'll take care of her. Oh, and it's raining and storming again so I can't go down there now because it's flooding again!!!!!

I live in Katrina-land, so our block (and a whole lot of other ones) looked just like that. It looked like a war zone. It's really amazing what water can do to a home.....

The thing I learned from going through this (our entire house flooded) is that the stuff that got ruined was just STUFF. We were still the same inside no matter what our home looked like and it was eye-opening to see to realize that.

This is not to say that it has not been a total pain-in-the-ass to get everything replaced and repaired! But it's great that your sister had flood insurance....a lot of people around here did not have it.

Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry that she is going through this. Having lived through 3 hurricanes in 2004 and the horrible tornado that ripped through my town in February of last year (DeLand FL), I know how devasating it can all be to see. Thoughts and prayers with your sister and her community.

Yes, my heart, thoughts and prayers go out to your sister and family. How devastating. I can't even imagine the loss and feeling of despair. I know it's just STUFF, but it's still YOUR stuff and now so much work to do. HUGS

Oh wow, April!! Those pictures really make it real...how scary for your sister to go through that, and now to have all of the loss and clean up. We had a fire before, and the way it turns your life upside down is incredible, but the one thing I learned from that is that you will always be okay...because all of the support you get from those around you shows you that they are all you need in life...not things, just people!! You are such a great sis....you don't even know how much you being there for her means to her!! Tough stuff...{{{{{HUGS}}}}}

April I am so sorry to hear about this. Saying prayers and sending hugs. For some reason Mother Nature has been sending so many cruel acts of nature all over the world and I can only imagine the loss and pain. She is lucky to have you.

There's nothing like seeing something with your own eyes to realy "feel" what is happening. The news keeps showing pics that all you see is the tops of cars! very sad indeed. My prayers are with you and all of the people who have lost their homes.
